Monthly Book Group – Usually held in the third week of each month. Members meet at the hosting member’s home at 6 pm for a potluck dinner, followed by a discussion of the common read book for the month. During standard time, meetings are at 2 pm on Sunday, with no meal but snacks provided. Members select each month’s book from a collection of suggested ones that usually feature books written by women and about women. For more information, contact Judy Adams at jadams11_2008@yahoo.com
Membership Lunch & Learns – Twice annually, we host luncheons for members at local restaurants and provide guest speakers on engaging current events affecting those in our community.
Girls Inc. – Every year, the women of AAUW Owensboro celebrate Eleanor Roosevelt’s Birthday (Oct 11) at Girls Inc. with a party and educational activities about the life of one of the most influential women in our country’s history.
In December, we celebrate the Icelandic tradition of Jolabokflood or “bookflood,” where each girl is given a book featuring strong female characters to read over the holiday break.
AAUW Owensboro also created and continues to support the Margaret Britton Fund at Girls Inc., a fund to support past Girls Inc. members as they pursue degrees and higher education.
Multi-cultural Festival – Our chapter participates annually in the Owensboro Multicultural Festival, where we host a booth about our chapter and share facts about women’s rights around the world.
Elmwood Tour – More information can be found about our Elmwood Tours on the Women’s History page. Once a year, we gather in person to provide an interactive version of our Elmwood Tour. An article about the 2025 tour can be found in the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer.
Coalition for An Inclusive Daviess County – AAUW Owensboro is one of the founding members of the Coalition for An Inclusive Daviess County, whose mission is: Cultivating a community where diversity is celebrated and every resident feels valued, respected, and empowered.
